ILTA Colleagues:

ILTA is invited each year to hold a session on language assessment at the annual TESOL convention on a topic of current interest in the field as well as relevant to an audience of language teachers/administrators. Some topics from previous years are listed below:
2010 - Assessment of grammar
2011 - Integrated skills assessment
2012 - The use of integrated tasks to test the oral skills
2013 - Are you assessment literate? Developing assessment knowledge for the classroom
2014 - Assessment in English language teaching: Reviewing essentials
2015 - Classroom assessment in English language teaching: Placement and diagnosis
2016 - Strategies for classroom assessment at different proficiency levels
2017 - Building assessment into everyday activities
2018 - The fundamentals of developing writing rubrics
These sessions have been very well received and typically attract a substantial audience.

Last year ILTA moved from delivering a 45-minute paper to running a 90-minute workshop and this format will be retained for 2019. Expressions of interest are invited from ILTA members to run next year’s workshop at TESOL 2019 in Atlanta, 12-15 March, 2019. The theme of the convention is “TESOL: The Local Global Nexus”.

Those interested in offering a workshop on ILTA’s behalf should send a proposal to the ILTA Secretary Ute Knoch ( no later than August 15 for consideration by the ILTA Executive Board. The proposal should include the title of the workshop (10-12 words) an abstract of 300 words (maximum) outlining the topic, aim, structure and expected outcomes of the workshop together with a 50-word summary for the TESOL program. Brief bios for the workshop leader/s should also be included. All language assessment-related topics are potentially of interest, but proposers may be interested in the suggestions offered by last year’s workshop participants (see for further information). The successful applicant will be advised by the end of August in time for the abstract to be submitted to TESOL by the deadline of September 5. The abstract will also be posted on the ILTA website.

Please note that ILTA is unable to offer funding to attend the TESOL Convention but, as a courtesy, TESOL organizers are offering one complimentary single day conference registration for the organizer/leader of the session. (If there is more than one presenter they will need to register and pay the conference fee This is a great opportunity liaise with your TESOL colleagues and contribute to ILTA’s mission of enhancing assessment literacy in the wider community.

We look forward to hearing from you.
