The 17th East Coast Organization of Language Testers (ECOLT) Conference will be held on October 12–13, 2018, at Educational Testing Service in Princeton, N.J.

Conference Theme:
Traditions of Language Testing Innovation
We would like to encourage presentations that emphasize and explore the value of:
(a) Traditions of quality assurance, validity and ethics in language testing
(b) Innovations in language assessment design, use and evaluation

Proposal Receipt Deadline: Wednesday, May 4, 2018  extended to May 25
Notification: Early July 2018

We invite proposals from colleagues in academia and education, government, and for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. ECOLT encourages students, researchers, test developers and teachers to present papers or posters on projects related to language testing.

PAPERS: (30 minutes)
This format is best suited for theory-oriented discussions/debates or the presentation of completed research. Presenters will have 20 minutes to discuss their papers, followed by 10 minutes for questions and comments from the audience.

POSTERS: (1 hour)
Poster sessions will provide an opportunity for the presentation of work in progress and research that is being planned, as well as for the presentation of test development projects, new tests and technological innovations. Poster presenters will interact with interested participants at the location of the poster display for an hour.

· Contribution to the field
· Quality of the research and/or theoretical ideas and/or test innovation
· Clarity of the abstract

To submit a proposal, fill out the ECOLT 2018 submission template ( on the conference website. Your submission should be sent as an email attachment to by May 4, 2018. The file name and email subject line should read: ECOLT18ABS_ LastNameFirstInitial (e.g. ECOLT18ABS_ChoY).

Abstracts should be between 200 and 300 words, single spaced. They should be clearly written and concisely address the following:
· Context of the issue(s) researched or discussed
· Purpose of the study, theoretical discussion or development project
· Summary of the approach, methodology or analytical procedures used
· Results/conclusions/outcomes
· Implications/significance to the field of language testing

2. There will be an award for the best student paper presented. To be considered, all authors on student papers must be actively enrolled graduate students at the time of the conference.
