The TOEFL Program at ETS has recently announced the 2017 recipient of the Jacqueline Ross TOEFL Dissertation Award. The recipient, selected after careful review by an external panel of judges, is Jing Xu. His dissertation, Predicting ESL learners’ oral proficiency by measuring the collocations in their spontaneous speech, was supervised by Dr. Carol Chapelle at Iowa State University.
Sarah Goodwin’s dissertation, Locus of control in L2 English listening assessment, was selected as the award finalist. The dissertation was supervised by Dr. Sara Cushing at Georgia State University.
As the Ross Award recipient, Dr. Xu will receive $2,500 and will be the guest of the TOEFL Program at the LTRC conference in Colombia.
